I purchased an Airdog 8x in October 2020. We live in an a neighborhood that experiences occasional chemical fumes in the middle of the night. I already had a HEPA air purifier and it helped, (sort of) but really just moved the fumes around in my house without trapping them in the filter. Because of these fumes, I began to get very ill -- coughing, elevated blood pressure, headaches, insomnia and symptoms similar to asthma. I needed to find something fast. The first night I used my Airdog, I noticed a big difference. Still not perfect, but I'm coughing less, no headaches - a definite improvement. I cleaned the unit for the first time today --(after about 4 months of nightly use) and it was pretty easy. I recently purchased a second metal collecting plate so I could wash the dirty one and immediately insert a clean one. This way I can continue to run the unit while the other is drying for the necessary 24 hours. I would recommend an Airdog if you find yourself living next to colorful neighbors like we do.

After two years of 7x24 use and periodic cleaning, it took only one dishwasher cycle to ruin the original filter which emitted horrible odors and while fully dried made clicking/ticking noises. Our call to support concluded with the recommendation to replace the catalytic carbon filter which took 3 weeks for delivery. That did not resolve the problem. We decided to replace the metal filter - this time delivery was a bit quicker at one week.
We love the X5 and with two new replacement parts, we feel the X5 is like new again. Bottom line: do not clean the metal filter in a dishwasher, no matter how tempting.
