Do HEPA Filters Remove Viruses?

Do HEPA Filters Remove Viruses?

While HEPA filtration can remove some pollutants from the air, the filters have significant limitations–including their inability to capture and destroy viruses. The good news is that Airdog’s TPA® Technology provides powerful virus protection for your family.

What HEPA Filters Can and Can’t Do for Your Air

HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate air filter. HEPA filters remove pollutants from air that flows through them, progressively lowering airborne concentration as the device runs.

The EPA has rated HEPA filters to capture 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns (0.3 µm). Contaminants at this size include sulfates and nitrates, soot and black carbon, organic compounds, and heavy metals such as lead and mercury.

But that 0.03% that HEPA can’t get is significant; most viruses are between 0.02 and 0.3 microns in diameter, which is much smaller than bacteria and much too small for HEPA filters to remove from your air.

Airdog is the only air purifier using smarter and more effective technology, called Two-Pole Active technology, to capture even the smallest particles and truly purify your air to the highest standard.

What Makes Airdog Different?

TPA (Two-Pole Active) technology generates a high-voltage, electrostatic field that traps and kills up to 99.99% of bacteria and viruses while capturing even the tiniest particulates—down to 0.0146 microns.

That means that Airdog air purifiers remove not just dust and soot, but also viruses such as influenza and COVID-19.

Unlike standard HEPA filters, TPA filters are also washable and reusable, eliminating the need for costly filter replacements. The technology actively destroys harmful particles rather than just collecting them, using an ionic field to neutralize contaminants at the molecular level.

Although HEPA can make your air cleaner, it leaves behind the viruses you really want gone. Learn more about the science of air quality and Airdog’s TPA technology here.
