Airborne viruses travel inside tiny respiratory droplets and aerosols, the microscopic particles you exhale when you breathe, talk, cough, or sneeze. An air purifier helps to reduce the number of potentially virus-containing particles in the air your family shares.
The unit draws room air in, traps particles (including virus-containing droplets) in the filter, and pushes cleaner air back into the room. Over time, this process lowers the overall concentration of airborne particles.
They do not stop direct transmission routes. A sneeze aimed at someone's face, hands touching contaminated surfaces then touching eyes, or any non-airborne pathway falls outside a purifier's scope.
HEPA vs TPA Filtration
Not all filters capture tiny, viral particles equally. HEPA filtration has been the gold standard for years, but newer air purification technology called TPA does a much better job at capturing and eliminating viruses.
HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air filtration, a standard that captures at least 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns. However, most viruses are between 0.02 and 0.3 microns in diameter. This is much smaller than bacteria and much too small for HEPA filters to remove from your air.
TPA, or Two-Pole Active technology, is the only air filtration technology that can capture particles smaller than 0.3 microns.
TPA technology generates a high-voltage, electrostatic field that traps and kills up to 99.99% of bacteria and viruses while capturing even the tiniest particulates—down to 0.0146 microns.
